Caroll E. Streeter Brode, 67, of Kent, Ohio died on Monday, July 24 at her home. She was born in Portage County on February 22, 1950 to Lois (Call) and Jack Streeter of Hiram, Ohio. Caroll graduated from Crestwood High School and went on to obtain a B.S. in Social Work from The University of Akron. She then obtained a MSSA from Case Western Reserve University. She is survived by her spouse Sue Whitehurst whom she married in 2013, her son Jason Brode of Seattle, WA, sister Barbara (Dick) Pancost Brooks of Gallatin TN, step-daughter Diane Carper of Diamond, two close and loving nieces, Maryann Smith of Michigan City, IN and Louann Mack of Kent, as well as a large, loving family and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters; Jacie Smith of McHenry, IL and Anne Streeter of Hiram.

Caroll worked at Planned Parenthood for a number of years and then went on to work 25 years for the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where she served as Service Support Administrator. She founded the Grandparent Support Group and also worked as the Parent Support Educator at Happy Day School. She was instrumental in the founding of Hiram Farm, which serves adults with disabilities, and continued to be an avid supporter. Caroll received the Earl and Mary Lohr Community Service Award for providing "exemplary advocacy, services or supports that assist individuals with disabilities to live, work. learn and socialize in our community." She also was a member of the League of Women Voters.

Caroll enjoyed kayaking, bicycling, yoga and travel. She was a nature lover and her favorite place was the family cabin on Lake Superior. She had a special place in her heart for all things archaeological and for rocks in particular which she often included in her gardening. She was a wonderful hostess, who often brought together family and friends with her delicious food, wicked sense of humor, and her penchant for storytelling.

When people think of Caroll they will forever remember her compassion, generosity, intuitiveness, creativity, and her huge loving heart.

Caroll's family would like to thank her dear friends who were so supportive,loving and helpful. We would also like to thank University Hospital and Hospice for their care during her experience with glioblastoma.

Caroll was a deeply spiritual person, and friends and family are invited to a Celebration of her Life at Wingfoot Lake State Park at 993 Goodyear Park Blvd, Mogadore. Ohio 44260 on Thursday, August 3 from 4 to 8pm, with a service at 5:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Hiram Farm, P.O. Box 157, Hiram, OH 44234, Planned Parenthood, 444 West Exchange Street, Akron, OH 44302, or Townhall II, 155 N. Water Street, Kent, OH 44240.
