Phillip Hans Sommers, 80, of Stow, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Akron General Hospital.

He was born April 11, 1936 in Cuyahoga Falls, to Hans and Loreene (Culver) Sommers. A veteran of the Army, Phil was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii and was the Drillmaster of the Honor Guard. He was a member of the Acker-Moore American Legion in Stow.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Blythe) Sommers, whom he married on November 14, 1959; daughters, Tracey Jo Sommers of Tallmadge and Vicki (Bruce) Neading of Ravenna; grandchildren, Michael Neading, Jayme Neading and Rose Sommers; sister, Pam (Charles) Dean of Palm Coast, FL. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Sommers and Thomas G. Sommers; and sister, Reene Williams.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Saturday, December 17 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, where calling hours will be held from 1:30-until the time of services. Burial will be held 1:00 PM Monday, December 19 at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
