Joseph M. Smerglia, 85, of Mogadore, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Ahuja Medical Center in Cleveland.

He was born April 30, 1932 in Akron to the late Leo and Maria (Miceli) Smerglia. He graduated from Case Institute of Technology. He was an environmental engineer for Goodyear.

He was the beloved husband of Janet (nee Chambers) Smerglia; loving father of daughters Lisa (Scott) Moyer of Stow, Cathy (Paul) Mowrer of Lahaina, HI, and Carol (Doug) Downing of Sneads Ferry, NC; son, Joel (Tracey Smith) Smerglia of Mogadore; treasured grandfather of Brian, Michelle, Kyle, Ian, Ross, Cameron, Amanda (Jeffrey), Alex, and Brendan; dear sisters-in-law, Eula (Leo), Mary Fran (Jimmy), and Carolyn (Van) Carter; cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Tony, Sammy, Rose Koller, Charles, Mary Malzan, Leo, Billy, Jeanette, Angie Patterson, Annie Kaschewski, and Jimmy.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday, September 22nd at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Celebration of Life will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in Brimfield on Sunday, September 24 at 1:00 PM, with dinner to follow.
