Gladys "Gay" Moore, 88, of Kent, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Woodlands at Robinson in Ravenna.

She was born September 12, 1928 in Akron to the late George and Clara (Harnack) Burgess. Gay worked as a private secretary, dental assistant and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran in Akron, Northminster Presbyterian Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson United Methodist Church, Wooster Presbyterian Church and Kent United Church of Christ and was active in the various women's groups at the churches. Also Gay was a member of the Eastern Star in Akron, Coterie I in Kent. She volunteered at Robinson Memorial Hospital in the 1960's.

Gay was a Caregiver for Bruce's father, Bonner Moore during the last few months of his life fighting Cancer in 1951, while Bruce and his mother, Lily, worked. She joined her husband, Bruce, in Denver where Lt. Moore was stationed at Lowry AFB during the Korean War. They moved to Mary Esther, FI when Bruce was re-assigned to Eglin AFB. After the war they returned to Cuyahoga Falls, until moving to Hudson in 1960, where Bruce became a VP for Morse Controls, residing there until Nov, 1970. In 1970 they moved to Basildon, Essex, England, while the boys were in college, when Bruce accepted the position of Managing Director of Teleflex Ltd when Rockwell, purchased Morse Controls previously.

Gay supported Bruce's' itch to start his own Company, so he resigned and returned to Kent, where he started Felsted, Inc, on Lake Street in 1974. Gay helped in many ways during this time. Bruce had some serious problems with Minears Syndrome and he decided to sell his new company to Samuel Moore, Inc., a minority shareholder who was extremely interested.

The Company outgrew the facility in Kent and moved to Holmesville and the Moore's moved to Wooster. In 1979, after purchasing Sam Moore Inc, Eaton Corporation asked Bruce to manage both Felsted and their Synflex Division, so the Moore's moved to their present home in the Pines in Kent.

We had many good years; however, Gay did care for Bruce's mother and Gay's mother in our home when they became ill near the end of their lives. Gay was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2001. She gradually went through all the phases of that disease, having to go to the hospital for a week on two or three occasions.

In 2012 Gay started going to Coleman's Adult Day Care in Ravenna two days a week, and after some time it became three days a week until December of 2016 when she could no longer do it. She and Bruce were very appreciative of the wonderful service they provided.

Gay has been on UH Home Hospice care since that time. It too, is a wonderful, caring service. The aides, nurses, and leaders could not have been more helpful. The Kent United Church of Christ was very helpful through the most difficult times, visiting with food, communion, and their prayers. Barb Hanniford, Heather Wicks, and the pastor were especially appreciated.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Moore, whom she married on August 17, 1947; sons, Gregory Alan (Judi) Moore of Sunset, NC and David Burgess (Rebecca) Moore of Cuyahoga Falls; granddaughters, Sarah (Jay) Johnson of Bethesda, MD, Laura (David) Gallagher of Dunwoody, GA, and Megan Clark of Akron; grandson, Matt (Sarah) Moore of Kent; great grandchildren, Luke, Lauren, David, and Emilia; and niece, Janene Pierce of Peninsula. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gertrude Balk and Marjorie Goodwill.

Calling hours will be held 6-8 PM Friday, June 30th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 1st at Kent United Church of Christ with Rev. John Bertsch officiating. Burial will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Coleman Adult Day Services (PASS), 6695 N. Chestnut Street, Ravenna, OH 44266 or the Kent United Church of Christ, 1400 E. Main Street, Kent, OH 44240.
